Emily Smith and Jamie McClennan
Scottish folksinger Emily Smith and New Zealand born Jamie McClennan celebrate fifteen years of making music together in 2017.
Their anniversary tour showcases a big new sound for the duo, with newly written songs from Smith and McClennan paired with some of their favourites from the past fifteen years. Drawing on influences from the folk tradition, Americana and beyond, the couple’s sumptuous harmonies are layered over sizzling double guitars, fiddle and accordion giving the audience the impression of a much larger band.
Multi award winning singer Emily Smith is a leading figure of the Scottish folk scene. For over a decade she has been entertaining audiences all over the world with her blend of traditional and original songs. Unshakeably Scottish but with farther, wider horizons, Emily’s music sees time worn texts weave beautifully alongside contemporary material, blurring the borders of old and new. Emily also plays accordion and piano. Her long term musical collaborator, and husband, Jamie McClennan has accompanied her throughout her career on guitar and fiddle and in recent years produced several of her albums.
Having toured the world throughout Europe, Australasia, North American, Japan and Russia they are without a doubt one of the most vibrant duos on the UK folk scene today.
