Jane Birkin – Gainsbourg Symphonic
Jane Birkin presents a symphonic tribute to the creative output of her long term partner, the iconic Serge Gainsbourg.
As well has having a poet’s wit and a Pop artist’s taste for constant reinvention, Serge Gainsbourg always had the ear of a symphonist – perhaps best embodied by the orchestral Funk-Rock of his 1968 masterpiece, Histoire de Melody Nelson. Gainsbourg Symphonic embraces the grandeur of Gainsbourg’s music, as Jane Birkin reinterprets his work with the rich sound of the Heritage Orchestra.
Few people are closer to Serge Gainsbourg’s music than Jane Birkin. She was his muse, his collaborator, and the inspiration for much of his output. And since his death, she has devoted herself to his legacy, performing and reworking his stunning material. But if anyone comes close to knowing Serge Gainsbourg’s music like Birkin does, it’s his producer Philippe Lerichonne with whom Birkin collaborates on this project. Together with Japanese composer, arranger and pianist Nobuyuki Najakima, they have created Gainsbourg Symphonic, a beautiful tribute to the rich legacy of a remarkable musician.
