KATH BLOOM + Splintered Man & Capt.Lovelace

Kath Bloom is a legend of folk, country, blues and avant-garde music. She has been making records since the late 70s. The daughter of world-renowned oboist Robert Bloom, she makes a very long awaited journey back over to the UK.

Starting her career in New York, Kath teamed up with avant-garde guitarist Loren Mazzacane Connors, for a series of now highly sought-after recordings of traditional blues and folk songs. Her body of work from the 70s and 80s is legendary, but largely unheard.

Kath returned to song writing / recording in the early 90s, & she was introduced to a new generation of fans with ‘Loving Takes This Course’ ( two disc set). This featured one disc of covers by Bill Callahan, Josephine Foster, Mark Kozelek, Devendra Barnhart etc and one of the original versions of Kath’s songs. The 1995 film Before Sunrise inspired use of her moving & beautiful song ‘Come Here’ is perhaps her most popular song. Bloom is a tiny, wiry, mature woman, who strums with a claw-like hand, wearing a belt of harmonicas that she switches to match the chords of each song. There are no good comparison’s, but imagine the cool of Joni Mitchell combined with the heat of Maria Callas. In reality, she’s simply Kath Bloom: vocalist, songwriter and musician extraordinaire.

‘One of the most beautiful singers ever. Heartbreaking.’—Devendra Banhart
“Bloom sounds like a woman who has spent years in the wilderness… An earthy, unpretentious presence, she can snap a heart like a twig” -Pitchfork
